The Curriculum in Translational Oncology has a strong focus on omics sciences. Students delve into the genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics of tumors not only to understand the mechanisms of tumorigenesis, but also to study tumour evolution. Through the integration of advanced technologies such as next-generation sequencing and the analysis of alterations in circulating nucleic acids (‘liquid biopsies’), the Curriculum enables the exploration of biomarkers useful for early diagnosis, prognosis, and prediction of therapeutic responses. The multi-omics approach also allows the identification and validation of new molecular targets, thus improving personalised strategies in oncology, with clinical applications in patient management and precision medicine.
